Nurture Track was designed to help women keep track of their health throughout their pregnancy journey. Miscarriage is a common thing, but unfortunately, most women don't realize it until it happens to them. Nurture Track aims to provide women with the information they need early on, so they can avoid some serious stress and problems and also get the medical advice they need. Our team did some serious research and talked to moms who experienced miscarriages to design this app.

Research

Most Americans underestimate the frequency of miscarriages, believing that they occur in 5% or less of all pregnancies, according to a survey by the Albert Einstein College of Medicine and Montefiore Health System in New York City. In reality, miscarriages take up 15-20% of reported pregnancies. Additionally, misconceptions exist about the causes of miscarriage, with people believing it is often caused by lifestyle choices such as alcohol, or tobacco use, as well as being due to a stressful event or lifting heavy objects. The survey also highlighted that people feel guilt and shame following a miscarriage and that many need more emotional support.
The Need

After we collected our research, we found that women face a variety of health issues throughout their lives: heart disease, diabetes, stroke, pregnancy health issues, breast cancer, etc. Then, we took the questions that we found to the interviews.

Notes from interviews
Journey Map for miscarriage experience & Persona

After our research, we discovered that the users’ pain points were lack of trusted information about medication, nutrition, and psychological preparation for all stages of pregnancy, so negligence by people resulted in miscarriages. Early prevention and attention could avoid the possibility of miscarriage.
How might we reduce the likelihood of miscarriage in pregnant women by providing early and effective information?
Journey Map & User Flowchart

One of the functions I designed involves tracking daily food intake and physical condition to create a record. This function will provide relevant articles and exercise plans based on the data provided by the user to offer early help. In the event that the articles do not effectively address users' concerns, the app will advise them to seek further assistance from a medical professional. Additionally, these recorded logs can provide valuable insights to aid doctors in making accurate diagnoses.
1st version of the Symptoms Tracker function
Upon selecting the tracker function, users are directed to the Track Symptoms page, where they can access the Weekly Recap feature that offers a comprehensive overview of their health status. In this section, users can record the foods they consume and monitor their body's responses to receive doctors suggested articles and exercise plans for assistance. If any discomfort persists, the app will recommend consulting a doctor for further guidance.
Why is this solution feasible?
During the follow-up interviews, two users said that if they could use this app during pregnancy, they would have a better understanding of their physical condition, and when they see a doctor, they would have a complete physical record for reference. This has increased the accuracy and help of diagnoses for doctors. Furthermore, the app is not just for pregnant women to record; their friends and partners can also help them to track their symptoms to establish stronger connections and provide emotional support.
Revisions after user testing Interviews

Following several user experience interviews, we have taken into account their feedback and re-evaluated the prioritization of our homepage. As a result of this feedback, we found that support came from someone who might have had a similar journey.

Quotes from the interview participants:
“I was not open to talk to just anyone, I was not looking for sympathy...”
“I was not ready to talk to anyone about miscarriage then...”
“I did not have a therapist before, I did not know whom to get in touch with...”

In response to these insights, we have decided to incorporate a support group feature into the app. This feature is particularly beneficial for users who face challenges in accessing medical insurance, as it enables them to connect with experienced individuals through emotional support groups, where they can share their experiences. This addition will serve a broader audience experiencing grief and seeking the support they need.
